Marital Adjustment Levels of Pregnant Women with Hyperemesis Gravidarum

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to measure the marital adjustment levels of pregnant women who did and did not have the diagnosis of hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) and to examine factors that cause HG.
METHODS: This research was conducted as a descriptive study. The study was conducted between the dates of 1.12.2003 to 15.3.2004 on the gynecology services and in the obstetric clinics of three hospitals. A questionnaire that contained descriptive questions prepared by the researcher and the Marital Adjustment Test (MAT) were used in the data collection. Data were collected using the face to face interview technique.
RESULTS: Low marital adjustment and work status increases the risk for HG in individuals.
CONCLUSION: Based on this result there is an increased risk for hyperemesis gravidarum in individuals with low marital adjustment.
