AIM: To investigate the effects of lumbopelvic movement training (LMT) on pelvic sway, core muscle endurance and balance.
MATRERIAL and METHOD: Nine sedentary participants were included in the study. Participants were given LMT, which consisted of six different exercises over a period of eight weeks. Participants were assessed before and after the exercises. Outcome measures included pelvic oscillations assessed using an inertial sensor system called GYKO, core muscle endurance assessed using the Unilateral Wall Sit Hold, Trunk Flexion Hold, and Horizontal Trunk Hold tests, and balance assessed using the HUR Smart Balance device.
RESULTS: Significant improvements were observed in pelvic sway and core muscle endurance following LMT (p<0.05). Most balance parameters did not change significantly; however, reaching forward and AP sway on a firm surface with eyes open improved significantly (p<0.05). Moderate-to-large effect sizes were observed across several pelvic sway, core endurance, and balance parameters.
CONCLUSION: LMT may reduce pelvic sway and improve core muscle endurance, with improvements also observed in selected balance parameters. We recommend that future studies confirm the efficacy of LMT using larger samples and randomised controlled trials.
